Keep Romaji → Hiragana selected and enter the sound with Latin letters. Basic syllables convert directly: ka → か, shi → し, and tsu → つ. For a contracted sound, combine an i-row consonant with y: kyo → きょ.

Small っ and doubled consonants
Type the next consonant twice: gakkou produces がっこう, and kitte produces きって. The small っ marks a brief closure before the following consonant; it is not the same character as full-size つ.

Is Hiragana the Japanese alphabet?
Hiragana is a phonetic syllabary rather than an alphabet. Each symbol usually represents a mora, and Japanese writing combines Hiragana with Katakana and Kanji.
How do I type ん before a vowel?
Use an apostrophe to remove ambiguity, such as n'a for んあ. Without separation, na normally becomes な.
How do I type small ゃ, ゅ, and ょ?
Type a contracted Romaji combination such as kya, shu, or cho, or use xya, xyu, and xyo to enter the small character alone.
