The JLPT officially runs from N5, the easiest level, to N1, the most difficult. The descriptions above are concise study summaries; consult the official level summary for the complete definitions.

How to use this JLPT section

Start with the level quiz if you are unsure where to begin. Turn the result into weekly targets with the study planner, then rotate between grammar, particles, vocabulary, verb forms, and Kana. Short repeated rounds are more useful than one large session that you never review.

2026 exam timing

The official worldwide JLPT site lists July 5 and December 6 for 2026. Some overseas cities offer only one session, and local registration periods differ. Use our JLPT countdown, then confirm availability with the official local host.
