Hiragana and Katakana Quiz: Free Kana Practice
Test Hiragana and Katakana recognition in random 10-character rounds. Practice basic Kana, Dakuten, Handakuten, and contracted sound combinations.
Choose your Kana set
Type the Romaji reading for each character and receive immediate feedback.
Keep practicing
Use another script or add voiced sounds and combinations when the basic set feels automatic.
Build instant Kana recognition
Reading should become direct: see き and retrieve `ki` without searching a chart. Ten-question rounds keep practice short enough to repeat while still revealing the characters that slow you down.
Choose the right difficulty
Start with the 46 basic characters. Add Dakuten and Handakuten after the unvoiced rows are stable. The full set adds contracted sounds such as きゃ, しゅ, and ちょ.
Mix Hiragana and Katakana
Practice each script separately before using Mixed mode. The mixed round is helpful once you know both charts because it prevents your memory from relying on a single visual style.
Type and review
The quiz accepts common IME aliases such as `si` for `shi` and `tu` for `tsu`. After the round, use the full Hiragana keyboard or Katakana keyboard to review any missing row.
